Southern Virginia Women's Volleyball Splits Weekend at Virginia Wesleyan Tournament

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Volleyball team opened their season at the Virginia Wesleyan Tournament for a four-game weekend bout. After a tough opening day, the Knights rallied on day two, splitting the weekend 2-2.
 
After dropping matches to Salem and Virginia Wesleyan, Southern Virginia opened day two with a solid sweep over Thiel. Defensively, the Knights' defense stood tall, not allowing their opposition to score more than 20 points in a set.
 
Jessica Ensley anchored the defense with 14 digs, while Madison Green, Brookelyn Madland, and Kaylie Hanna added a block.
 
Brenna Clyde and Sydney Bassett led the way offensively, with Clyde recording nine kills and Bassett adding eight.
 
Southern Virginia carried their momentum into the second game, taking down Neumann in four sets, 3-1.
 
Sophomore Abby Gregory had a standout performance tallying 13 digs and an ace, while Brenna Clyde kept doing her thing, leading the team with 11 kills.
 
The Knights stay on the road in their next match, traveling to Lynchburg to take on the Hornets in a mid-week matchup on Tuesday, September 5.
