BUENA VISTA, VA – The Southern Virginia University Football team faced a challenging start to their season, falling 0-45 against Christopher Newport University in week one of their campaign.
The Christopher Newport University Captains came out strong in the first quarter, with Matt Dzierski scoring two rushing touchdowns, giving the Captains an early lead of 0-14. Their dominance continued in the second quarter, with Gunner White adding another touchdown to the scoreboard, extending the lead to 0-21.
As the game progressed, Christopher Newport University's offense maintained its momentum. Dzierski scored his third touchdown of the day, and a field goal by Ryan Castle in the third quarter increased their lead to 0-31. The Captains added more points with another touchdown by Dzierski and a spectacular 32-yard interception return by Taizuan Brown, making the final score 0-45 in favor of Christopher Newport University.
The Knights face off against Bridgewater College in the second week of the season for the team's home opener in Knight Stadium. Opening kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
