Late Goal Ends With Stalemate In Men's Soccer Battle

Box Score DEMOREST, GA- The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fought for a tie in an action-filled match against the Lions of Piedmont University.

Benjamin Simister got the Knights on the board in the 17th minute after a long cross from Ammon Lewis set Simister for a header past the goalie's reach for his fifth goal in three games.

Ammon Lewis then found his own goal just four minutes later when Gavin Young beat his man to the ball and crossed it to the middle for a wide-open Lewis to make it 2-0 for the Knights.

The Lions fought back with a goal of their own and went into the half holding an advantage in shots and corners putting the pressure on Southern Virginia.

Piedmont struck the equalizer in the 83rd minute after a deflection allowed the Lions to sneak one by.

Freshman Goalkeeper Treyden Stringham put up a remarkable effort, tallying seven saves on the 24 shots he faced.

Southern Virginia now returns home for a non-conference game against The Royals of Regent University on Monday, September 25th with kick-off slated for 5:00 PM.
