RALEIGH, NC. — On Saturday morning, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina, to take on the William Peace and No. 21 Christopher Newport University in a doubleheader weekend. Despite their best efforts, the Knights fell short in both matches.
Game One Notes: William Peace
- Sydney Bassett led the team with nine kills, two aces, and one block, while Brenna Clyde added seven kills and a block
- Sarah Hoofman did what she could, tallying 28 assists
- Jessica Ensley anchored the defense with 12 digs
- After a tough fight in the first set, the Pacers managed to take the 1-0 lead after taking the 25-22 win
- William Peace followed up the second and third sets with back-to-back 25-18 wins to complete the sweep over the Knights
Game Two Notes: Christopher Newport
- Bassett led all players with 18 kills and a .325 hitting percentage
- Abby Gregory had a solid outing with seven kills, hitting .438, along with two aces
- The Knights impressed from the service line, with Sarah Hoofman, Taryn Anderson, and Ruby Blamires combining for eight of the team's 11
- Jilane Pedersen dominated at the net with a game-high four blocks
- After two quick wins in the first and second sets, Southern Virginia came together to avoid the sweep, taking the third set 25-21 led by Gregory's four kills
- The Captains bounced back in the fourth set, taking the match win with a 25-20 victory
Southern Virginia returns home on Wednesday, September 27, taking on Greensboro College in Knight Arena at 6 p.m.
