Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Southern Virginia women's basketball team extended their winning streak to seven games, improving to 11-4 on the season and maintaining an unblemished 9-0 record in the USA South with a season-high offensive performance against Salem College (7-8, 3-5), securing a dominant 97-52 victory.
The Knights faced an early challenge, falling behind by six points. However, back-to-back layups from Aysia Foster and a 3-pointer from Taylor Miyasaki narrowed the deficit to one. Towards the end of the quarter, another three from Miyasaki gave the Knights the lead, but a stretch of poor shooting left Southern Virginia with a slim 16-15 advantage at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter witnessed a remarkable offensive explosion from Southern Virginia. Immediately taking control of the game, the Knights established a nine-point lead and dominated the boards, extending their advantage by the end of the quarter. Foster, Alyssa Weiland, and Addison Newman all contributed points in the paint for the Knights.
The offensive onslaught continued in the third and fourth quarters, with the Knights posting two more 27-point quarters. Impressively, contributions came from 12 different players, sealing the decisive victory.
Southern Virginia asserted their dominance on the boards, outrebounding Salem 50 to 24, including tying a season-high in offensive rebounds with 21.
Aysia Foster delivered a dominant performance in just 18 minutes of play, recording a game-high 16 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting from the field and achieving a season-high in rebounds with six. Lily Kenter and Abigail Snyder followed suit with 15 points each, with Snyder coming close to a triple-double, securing 10 rebounds and seven assists in the game.
The Knights will now return home for a matchup against Meredith College, marking the ninth meeting between the two teams. Southern Virginia holds a commanding 7-1 edge in the series, along with a seven-game winning streak.
