Harrisonburg, Va. - Southern Virginia University's field hockey team concluded their season at Eastern Mennonite in a hard-fought 2-0 loss, breaking several program records along the way.
The Knights showcased impressive offensive pressure, setting a new program record with 26 shots and drawing 18 penalty corners. Southern Virginia controlled much of the match, particularly in the second half, and consistently challenged the Royals' defense.
After a slow start in the first quarter with only two shots, Southern Virginia found their stride in the second despite conceding an early goal to the Royals. Knights' players Karenna Olson, Elizabeth Marble, Hadlee Jeppsen, Azure Dill, Morgan Smith, and Ashley Torgeson all registered shots, only to be denied by strong saves from the Royals' goalkeeper.
The Knights continued their aggressive play into the third and fourth quarters, outshooting Eastern Mennonite 12-2, but were ultimately unable to convert their chances. Southern Virginia held a clear advantage in shots (26-8) and penalty corners (18-5), but 13 saves from the Royals' goalkeeper kept the Knights from breaking through.
In addition to their offensive milestones, the Knights tied a program record with 41 fouls, showcasing the intensity of their play. The game marked a strong finish to the Knights' season, setting new benchmarks in offensive pressure and corner opportunities.
