Southern Virginia Men's Volleyball Dominates Weekend Conference Clash, Extends Perfect Record to 22-0

Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia men's volleyball team delivered an impressive performance, claiming victories in two pivotal conference matchups. The weekend commenced with a thrilling showdown against the Eagles, both teams entering the match with top ten national rankings. Despite dropping their first set of the season, the Knights rallied back to secure a hard-fought win, ultimately finishing the weekend with a commanding sweep of Elizabethtown, improving their conference record to a flawless 6-0.

In the intense battle against the Eagles, Southern Virginia faced an early setback, conceding the opening set. The Eagles claimed the opening set with a narrow 25-22 victory, displaying a strong offensive performance with a match-high hitting percentage of .346. However, Southern Virginia quickly responded, drawing even by winning the second set 31-29. The tension reached its peak with the score tied at 29-29, when the Knights capitalized on a crucial service error from Juniata to regain serve.With nerves of steel, Southern Virginia closed out the set on a powerful kill from Christian Sheaffer, igniting the crowd.

The Knights continued their momentum, clinching the next two sets 25-21 and 25-23 With a .233 hitting percentage and a strong defensive effort, recording 14 team blocks, Southern Virginia emerged victorious. Sheaffer led the charge with an impressive 23 kills and eight block assists, while Tyler Sheaffer facilitated the offense with 43 assists.

In the second match against Elizabethtown, the Knights delivered a dominant performance, sweeping their opponents with scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-21. Once again, Sheaffer led the way with 16 kills, boasting a remarkable .600% hitting percentage, and contributing three blocks for a total of 21 points.

Looking ahead, Southern Virginia prepares for their upcoming conference games, set to travel for their next three matchups. Their next challenge awaits against Kean on March 29th, Friday at 7:00 PM in Union, New Jersey. With victories in their last two meetings against the Cougars, the Knights aim to maintain their winning streak and continue their pursuit of conference dominance.
