Electric Offensive Attack Leads Southern Virginia Baseball to 14-10 Victory Over Apprentice School Builders

Buena Vista, VA - The Knights of Southern Virginia University baseball showed out today against Apprentice School, despite allowing the Builders to make the game closer than it needed to be. The batting was on point across the board, as every single Southern Virginia batter found their way on base from a hit or a walk in what totaled 12 hits, 13 RBIs, and 8 walks as a team in the 8-and-a-half inning affair, scoring at least 1 run in 6 of the 8. With today's win, the Southern Virginia baseball team is now 5-5 all-time against Apprentice School.

Right from the 1st inning, the Knights started their score fest, and they did so in dramatic fashion. Lead-off batter SS Seth Lloyd was walked, followed by RF Ty Martinez who singled to right center field and advanced Lloyd to third base. Next up was P/DH Zack Geertsen (2 for 4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, 1 double, 1 home run, 1 walk), who set the tone for the rest of the game by launching a nuke over the left field fence to chalk up 3 runs on the board before an out was recorded. The Knights added 1 more run in the bottom of the 2nd inning on account of an RBI from Martinez, taking an early 4-0 lead.

The top of the 3rd inning could've led to disaster for the Knights, who allowed the Builders back into the conversation after they put together an 8-run performance off of 7 hits, 1 walk, and 1 fielding error. Apprentice Schools' bats caught fire and turned the score around in their favor, taking an 8-4 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd.

Unshaken and unstirred, Southern Virginia remained steadfast and immediately piled on 4 more runs to tie the game back up. RF Benjamin Horsley, C Robert Stempin, and SS Seth Lloyd recorded RBIs and Stempin continued around the bases on pass balls to bring the score to 8-8.

The Knights went on to score 6 more runs in the 4th, 5th, and 8th innings off the bats of CF Nick Daynes, 3B Marcelino Leonardo Jr., 1B Stockton Hall, and C Robert Stempin. Southern Virginia only allowed the Builders to find the home plate 2 more times, and the Knights ultimately won the game 14-10.

Pitcher Ben Agnew had a stellar performance on the mound today, only allowing 3 hits and 1 run in 3.1 innings pitched. Agnew also recorded 5 strikeouts and no walks against 13 batters. The save was accredited to Pitcher Rock Giles, who only gave up 1 run in his 3-inning showcase.

The Knights will stay at home this week as they welcome in conference opponent Pfeiffer University for their 3-game series this weekend. Game 1 is currently slated to begin on Friday, March 29th at 2pm and then finish off with a double-header on Saturday starting at noon.
