Southern Virginia Baseball Splits Pair In Conference Clash With William Peace

Durham, NC - The Southern Virginia baseball team experienced a split in a crucial series against the Pacers of William Peace University, showcasing a strong offense in the process. They claimed victory in the first game with a score of 16-8 but faced defeat in the second game, falling 4-16.

The first game was a tightly contested affair, with the Knights displaying late-inning heroics to secure the lead. Freshman Zack Geertsen pitched a solid four innings of three-run baseball, supported by three solid innings from Ben Agnew, who allowed only one run, ultimately securing the win for Southern Virginia.

Geertsen also made an impact at the plate, contributing to a multi-hit game. However, significant damage was inflicted by Stockton Hall and Ty Martinez, both of whom homered during the game. Additionally, four Knights notched doubles, with Seth Lloyd, Hall, and Mitch Smith each securing three hits, and Hall impressively driving in five RBIs. Marcelino Leonardo Jr. drew three walks and added two RBIs to the team's tally.

In the second game, the Knights' offense encountered difficulties, with Hall and Stempin being the only players to achieve a multi-hit game. Hall's two doubles contributed two RBIs, but William Peace's offense surged in the third inning, putting the game out of reach for a final score of 4-16.

Taking a brief respite from action, the Knights will host a non-conference game against Ferrum College on Tuesday, April 16th, at 2:00 PM.
