Southern Virginia Softball Falls in Non-Conference Doubleheader Against Roanoke

Buena Vista, VA, The Southern Virginia softball team faced a tough defeat in a non-conference doubleheader against Roanoke College, with scores of 1-5 and 1-12.

Game Notes:

  • Despite matching Roanoke's offensive output with eight hits compared to their seven in the first game, Southern Virginia struggled with walks and errors, which allowed Roanoke to capitalize and extend their innings.

  • A pivotal moment came in the top of the 5th inning when Roanoke hit a grand slam, putting the game out of reach and giving them a commanding 5-run lead.

  • Southern Virginia managed to score their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning, initiated by a leadoff walk from Arianna Hall. Madison Lloyd's single to third base allowed Katie Claytor to score, narrowing the lead to four. However, they fell short in the final innings.

  • Arianna Hall pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, while both Claytor and Lloyd had multi-hit games. Emmaline DeGroot drew two walks during the contest.

  • In the second game of the doubleheader, Southern Virginia's defense struggled with errors, committing five in just the first three innings. This, coupled with Roanoke's strong offense, put the Knights behind early.
