Southern Virginia Women’s Volleyball Sweep Mary Baldwin with Dominant Road Win

STAUNTON, VA – The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team secured a commanding 3-0 victory over the Fighting Squirrels of Mary Baldwin, taking care of business on the road.

The Knights came out strong in the first set, opening with three service aces in their first eight points. They quickly built an 18-8 lead before a late rally by Mary Baldwin closed the gap. However, back-to-back kills from Sydney Bassett helped Southern Virginia clinch the first set, 25-19.

In the second set, Southern Virginia imposed their will, with Ruby Blamires serving three aces during a five-point run that broke the set open. The Knights dominated the remainder of the set, with Bassett again closing things out in a decisive 25-13 win.

Southern Virginia wrapped up the match with a solid performance in the third set, winning 25-16 and completing the sweep.

The Knights tied their season-high with 14 service aces, led by Brookelyn Madland, who had a career-high six. Bassett and Brenna Clyde both contributed 11 kills, while Gracie Fulton's stellar defense, with 12 digs, and Ruby Blamires' 36 assists were crucial to the victory.

The Knights now return home for their next conference matchup against Methodist University. Despite holding an 8-2 all-time advantage over the Monarchs, Methodist currently sits second in the USA South conference standings, setting the stage for an exciting contest.
