Bridgewater, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team dropped their opening game to the Eagles of Bridgewater College, 0-3. Despite a resilient defensive effort by the Knights, it wasn't enough to counter the aggressive midfield play from the Eagles.
This loss brings Southern Virginia's record against Bridgewater to 1-9, following several close finishes in recent years. However, the Knights were unable to maintain an advantage in this match.
The Knights found themselves on the back foot from the start, with Bridgewater firing off five shots in the first 10 minutes before finding the back of the net in the 19th minute to take an early lead. The Eagles doubled their lead in the 27th minute, maintaining offensive pressure and making it difficult for the Knights to regain their footing before halftime.
In the second half, Bridgewater continued their momentum, scoring their final goal in the 60th minute to secure a 3-0 victory.
Southern Virginia managed 12 saves but was heavily outshot, 1-31, and did not earn a corner kick compared to Bridgewater's 10, underscoring the strength of the Eagles' offense throughout the match.
The Knights will continue their road trip with matches at Berry College, where they will face Emory University and Berry College. This marks the first meeting between Southern Virginia and Emory, while the Knights will look to replicate their 1-0 win over Berry College in 2022.
