Southern Virginia Women's Basketball Dominates as Foster's Perfect Shooting Leads the Way Against Salem

Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team continued their stellar season with a commanding 88-52 victory over Salem College, improving to 13-2 overall and an unblemished 7-0 record in USA South Conference play.

The Knights set the tone early, exploding to a 23-8 lead in the first quarter. Their dominance on the boards was evident, as they outrebounded Salem 15-6 during the opening period. While the second quarter began with a cold stretch offensively, a clutch three-pointer from Saydee Allred helped steady the Knights. They closed the half strong, heading into the break with a 35-20 advantage, their largest lead of the game at that point. Demonstrating their depth, 15 different Knights contributed minutes in the first half.

After halftime, Southern Virginia came out firing. Aysia Foster, Abigail Snyder, and Saydee Allred jumpstarted the offense, powering the Knights to their highest-scoring quarter with 27 points. Big plays from Ruth Kempler and Hailey Paige late in the third quarter extended the lead to 62-39.

The Knights didn't let up in the fourth quarter. Foster scored six consecutive points, leading the team on a 12-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Camilla Norton. The relentless effort sealed the dominant win for Southern Virginia.

Foster was the standout performer of the night, finishing with a game-high 18 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting while also leading the team with seven rebounds and four blocks. Allred provided a spark off the bench, tallying 14 points in just 15 minutes, including three three-pointers. Kempler delivered an all-around effort in 17 minutes, leading the team with six assists and five steals.

Southern Virginia now turns its attention to a pivotal matchup against Brevard College on Saturday, January 18th, at 2:00 PM. Brevard, sitting second in the USA South standings with a 6-1 conference record and 11-3 overall, promises to be a formidable opponent in this highly anticipated battle.
