Southern Virginia Women’s Basketball Cruises to Victory Over Pacers as Weiland Posts Career-High

Raleigh, N.C. – The Southern Virginia women's basketball team continued their dominant run, securing a 92-35 victory over William Peace University. The Knights extended their winning streak to 14 games, improving to 16-2 overall and remaining perfect at 10-0 in conference play.

Southern Virginia took control from the opening tip, jumping out to a 12-0 run in the first three minutes, fueled by Maria Savvun's pair of three-pointers and Ruth Kempler's six early points.

Alyssa Weiland found her rhythm late in the quarter, scoring six unanswered points before a Makayla Patterson layup pushed the Knights to a commanding 21-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second period, Aysia Foster took charge with four consecutive points, followed by Taylor Hoopes and Asia Canty, who capped off the half with back-to-back layups. Southern Virginia entered the break leading 37-10.

The Knights came out firing in the second half, with Savvun hitting another three to extend the lead to 30, followed by a Kempler tip-in to make it a 32-point game. Weiland and Hailey Paige capitalized in transition, pushing the lead to 40 before heading into the final quarter up 62-26.

Despite the large margin, the Knights kept their foot on the gas, tying their most points in a quarter this season with 30 in the fourth. Camilla Norton and Hoopes knocked down threes to cap off Southern Virginia's largest win margin of the season at 92-35.

Southern Virginia dominated the glass, pulling down a season-high 63 rebounds, more than doubling William Peace's 32. The Knights also protected the ball well, recording their third-fewest turnovers of the season with just 13.

Key Performances:

Alyssa Weiland: Recorded a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds in just 15 minutes.

Aysia Foster: Remained atop the USA South Blocked Shots leaderboard with four more tonight, finishing with eight points.

Ruth Kempler: Tallied 14 points (7-10 FG) and seven rebounds.

Hailey Paige and Taylor Hoopes: Both contributed 10 points.

Southern Virginia now returns home on Saturday, February 1st, to host Brevard College, currently second in the USA South Conference standings. The Knights will look to complete the season sweep over the Tornadoes after securing a 71-62 win earlier this season.
