Stellar First Half Pushes Men’s Basketball to Seventh Straight Win

Fayetteville, NC – The Southern Virginia men's basketball team improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a commanding 66-55 victory over Methodist University. This marks the Knights' seventh consecutive win as they continue their impressive season.

The Knights dominated the first half, starting strong with a three-pointer from Christian Goode and never relinquishing the lead. A key contribution from the bench, led by Luc DeVore and Hyrum McConkie, helped extend the lead to 15 points. A jumper from Tillman Johnson put Southern Virginia up by 18 with two minutes left in the half, their largest lead of the game.

Southern Virginia's dominance in the paint was evident, outscoring the Monarchs 30-12 in that area during the first half. The Knights shot an efficient 58.1% (18-31) from the field, compared to just 34.8% (8-23) for Methodist.

The Monarchs came out energized in the second half, cutting the lead to just five points within the first eight minutes. However, Eli Ballstaedt hit a crucial three-pointer to reignite the Knights' offense and scored the next seven points, providing a much-needed spark. Despite Methodist's improved rebounding, McConkie and Johnson's efforts helped the Knights maintain their lead. In the final three minutes, DJ Green orchestrated the offense, leading the Knights to a confident finish.

Southern Virginia showcased their balanced scoring attack, with five players reaching double figures. Hyrum McConkie and DJ Green led the team with 12 points each, with McConkie achieving a season- and career-high performance.

The Knights now return home for a three-game stretch, beginning with a matchup against Pfeiffer on Friday, January 10th, at 7:00 PM, followed by William Peace on Saturday, January 11th, at 4:00 PM.
