MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team ran into another stingy defense on Saturday afternoon, losing their penultimate conference game to Pfeiffer, 3-0.
Knowing the importance of the matchup, the Knights once again opened the game with a sense of urgency.
In the second minute, Sam Nettesheim and Landon Stock each sent shots towards the Falcons goal but were unable to find twine.
Tate Hickman also registered a shot on goal and the team forced several corners with the momentum seemingly in their favor.
However, in the 17th minute, Pfeiffer converted on a free kick just a few yards from the top of the box. The initial shot deflected off the Southern Virginia wall and into the right side of the goal.
In the second half, the Knights continued to pepper the opposing goal with shots, but to no avail. The Falcons would tally two more goals to finish the game ahead 3-0, despite being outshot by the Knights.
Benjamin Simister attempted four shots and Tate Hickman led the team with two shots on goal.
The game gives the league leading falcons their fourth win in league play, while the Knights drop to 1-4-1 in the USA South.
Looking Ahead
The Knights face a crucial matchup in their final regular season game against Mary Baldwin on Wednesday, October 29th, at 7:00 PM. They need a win of their own and a Brevard loss to clinch a spot in the postseason.
