Southern Virginia Women’s Soccer Dominates in Record-Breaking Win Behind Peterson’s Four Goals

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team delivered a record-breaking performance Friday night, defeating William Peace University 11-0 at Knight Stadium — the most goals ever scored in a single match in program history.

Freshman forward Delin Peterson had a night to remember, scoring four goals, marking both a new program record and tying the USA South Conference record for most goals in a single conference game.

The Knights (5-4-1, 4-0-0) dominated from start to finish, outshooting the Pacers (1-7-1, 0-4-0) by a staggering 39–5 margin and earning nine corner kicks.

Ashley Hamblin opened the scoring in the 26th minute off assists from Addison Newman and McKenna Currey, followed by Peterson's first goal just four minutes later to give Southern Virginia a 2–0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Knights exploded for nine more goals. Hailey Gadd, Courtney Montes, Addison Newman, Rachel Bodkin, and Xoie Warner all found the back of the net.  Bodkin arched in a corner kick while warner scored twice in a two-minute span (78th and 80th minutes), and Peterson capped her historic outing with her fourth goal in the 87th minute.

Newman led the team in playmaking with two assists and one goal, while Desana Grabarczyk also provided two assists off the bench. The Knights' depth shined with 10 different players recording either a goal or an assist.

Goalkeepers Chloë Miller and Ruth Sumner combined for the shutout, facing just one shot on goal all night.

Southern Virginia will look to extend its five-game win streak when they host No. 3 Christopher Newport University on Tuesday, October 7, at 7 p.m. at Knight Stadium.
