Knight Football Drops Senior-Day Finale Against Panthers

Buena Vista, Va. — On a beautiful Senior Day in Buena Vista, the Southern Virginia University football team fell to LaGrange College, 67–27, in the final game of the season. The Knights close the year with a historic 6–4 record and 3–4 conference mark, marking the best conference finish in program history.

Before kickoff, Southern Virginia honored its 10 seniors — Jireek Washington, Jemaar Robinson, Scott DuPaix, Blake Beardall, Isaiah Maxey, Cambridge Bingham, Henry Audette, Andy Hatch, Tommy Cruz, and Tyrek Taley — all of whom have been impactful leaders and tone-setters for the program.

LaGrange opened the game with a long, methodical drive before Joseph Woods Jr. punched the ball free at the goal line, recovered in the end zone by Blake Beardall to halt the Panthers' momentum.

However, LaGrange struck first shortly after with a deep touchdown and added another long connection on 2nd-and-20 to take a 13–0 first-quarter lead.

The Panthers extended their advantage in the second quarter with multiple long drives to make it 20–0. Southern Virginia responded instantly as Devin Watson connected with MJ Laws on the first play of the ensuing drive, and Scott DuPaix converted the extra point to make it 20–7.

LaGrange's rushing attack continued to find success, marching 75 yards in seven plays to regain control before entering halftime ahead 37–7. Watson later found Washington for his eighth receiving touchdown of the season, tying for the third-most in a single year in program history.

In the second half, the Knights' seniors continued to provide sparks. DuPaix hauled in his second receiving touchdown of the season, and Marcus Sollers added a rushing touchdown to cap the Knights' scoring and bring the final to 67–27.

LaGrange finished with 655 yards of total offense, averaging 9.4 yards per play. Watson led Southern Virginia with 285 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Laws paced the receivers with three catches for 92 yards and a score.

Defensively, Ty Smith led the Knights with 11 tackles and a forced fumble, Lucas Martin added 11 tackles of his own, and Spike Adams contributed nine more.

Southern Virginia finishes its season averaging a program-best 271.7 passing yards per game. Watson's 2,120 passing yards rank second-most in a single season in school history, and his 18 touchdown passes tie for second all-time.

With a talented group of impact freshmen and strong upperclass leadership returning, the Knights have plenty to look forward to entering next season.
