Salem, VA — The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team dropped both contests at the Roanoke College Tip-Off Classic, falling 56–86 to Roanoke and 93–109 to Guilford.
Game 1: Roanoke 86, Southern Virginia 56
The Knights struggled to keep pace with the Maroons, largely due to the turnover margin and interior scoring. Southern Virginia scored just 8 points off turnovers, while Roanoke capitalized for 25. The Maroons also dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint compared to the Knights' 20.
DJ Green once again led the Knights, finishing as the team's only double-digit scorer with 18 points on 7–16 shooting, including 4–8 from three.
Tillman Johnson added 9 points, a team-high 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, but the Knights were unable to match Roanoke on the glass, pulling down only 3 offensive rebounds compared to Roanoke's 10. Southern Virginia also committed 14 turnovers to the Maroons' 7, contributing to the final deficit.
Game 2: Guilford 109, Southern Virginia 93
The Knights came out firing, opening the game on an 8–0 run with threes from Green and Johnson and a layup by Hyrum McConkie. However, Guilford responded quickly and built a lead as large as 14 before taking a 53–42 advantage into halftime.
Turnovers proved costly throughout the night. Southern Virginia committed 32 turnovers, while Guilford had just 12, allowing the Quakers to extend their lead to 25 mid–second half. The Knights continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 15, but late free throws and defensive pressure from Guilford secured the 109–93 result.
Southern Virginia returns home for a brief break in travel, hosting Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday, November 18th at 7:00 PM. The Knights hold a seven-game winning streak over the Royals dating back to 2018.
