Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia men's basketball team continued their impressive season with a 76-63 victory over Methodist University, improving to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play. The Knights secured the win with a well-balanced offensive effort, as all five starters scored in double figures.
Despite the final score, the game was highly competitive, featuring ten lead changes and five ties. Christian Goode got the Knights off to a strong start with five early points, while Tyler Kartchner knocked down back-to-back jumpers to keep Southern Virginia in the lead. DJ Green and Collin Griffith added back-to-back three-pointers, helping the Knights take a 31-26 lead into halftime.
The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling from the field—Southern Virginia shot 36.1%, while Methodist finished at 37.5%. However, the Knights never surrendered the lead in the second half, thanks to a dominant start out of the break. Griffith and Eli Ballstaedt combined to score the Knights' first 14 points of the half, pushing the lead to 45-38.
Ballstaedt continued his hot shooting from beyond the arc, while Green and Tillman Johnson helped the Knights capitalize on fast-break opportunities. Kartchner's layup extended the lead to double digits at 58-48, and Johnson's strong presence in the paint helped Southern Virginia stretch the lead to 15 points at 71-56.
Down the stretch, Kade Harrick and Hyrum McConkie helped close out the game, securing another crucial conference victory for the Knights.
