Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team continued its impressive run, securing its 10th consecutive victory to stay a perfect 10-0 with a commanding 25-11, 25-10, 25-15 sweep over Stevenson University.
The Knights' dominance was highlighted by an incredible 20 service aces, tying for the second-most in program history. Samuel Candland and Christian Sheaffer led the charge with six aces each, tying the second-most record previously set in a 3-0 win over Eastern Mennonite on April 12, 2024. Notably, Southern Virginia did not allow a single service ace from Stevenson.
The match also saw the return of Kristo Bianchin, who wasted no time making an impact, delivering a kill on his first play since the season opener. Isaac Carrillo kept the momentum going with two service aces, followed by another pair from Sheaffer, setting the tone early for the Knights.
Southern Virginia controlled all three sets with key contributions across the lineup. Candland and Jeremy Brown both made big plays, with Candland recording four kills, six digs, and six aces, while Brown added five kills and two aces.
Bianchin and Sheaffer led the Knights in kills with six apiece, while Kyler Evans added five. Gehrig Tolman directed the offense with 25 assists and contributed on defense with four digs. Evans and Candland also stepped up at the net, recording multiple blocks.
Southern Virginia now turns its focus to the EMU Royals Tournament, set for February 21-22 at Eastern Mennonite University. The Knights will face Trine University at 8:00 PM on Friday before back-to-back matchups on Saturday against Randolph-Macon and Eastern Mennonite, beginning at 4:00 PM.
