Knight Baseball Falls to Quakers in High-Scoring Battle

Greensboro, N.C. - The Southern Virginia University Baseball Team took a trip to Greensboro Tuesday night, falling 13-8 in a high-scoring matchup.

The Knights found themselves in an early five-run deficit before finally breaking through in the third inning. Ryan Farris hit a solo moonshot to put the Knights on the board, bringing the score to 5-1 after the top of the third. Farris assisted his team in the field recording six putouts over nine innings.

Southern Virginia's offense remained quiet until the fifth inning, when Stockton Hall opened things up again for Southern Virginia, hitting a rope up the middle to get two teammates back to the keep. Zack Geertsen followed up Hall with a single of his own just over first base to close their deficit and make the score 11-4. That single was followed by a flurry of shots that slid through the infield by Mitch Smith and Marcelino Leonardo Jr. That team effort left the Knights down by seven runs, ending the top of the fifth at 11-6.

In the top of the eighth, the Knights found themselves with the bases loaded with a score of 13-6. Conner Robley took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Hall closed out the scoring for Southern Virginia, with a sacrifice fly to record his third RBI in three at-bats. Hall also helped his team in the field recording seven put-outs to keep the Knights behind the plate. The Knights made a valiant effort to close the gap but found themselves out of innings with a score of 13-8.

Southern Virginia now shifts its focus to a doubleheader against Newport News Apprentice School on February 22, where they'll look to bounce back and build momentum moving forward.
