Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team opened conference play this season against a newly added member of the CVC, Drew University. The match served as a rude welcome for the newcomers, as the Knights put together a dominant performance and emerged victorious after three sets.

Senior Curtis Stone was given the nod and started for the second time this season. He immediately made his presence known, registering two kills and a solo block to open a 6-0 lead for his team. Christian Sheaffer and Samuel Candland were also effective in the early going, as the Knights never trailed en route to securing the first set.

Jeremy Brown and Jason Wang took center stage in the second set, providing Southern Virginia with well-rounded play by chipping in with multiple blocks and many high-flying kills. Sheaffer put Drew on the brink after receiving a set form from Maxym Sutton to give the Knights a 25-15 win in the second frame.

Like the first two sets, Southern Virginia used a quick start to put their opponents away early. Remarkably, the Knights did not trail once throughout the match and were tied for only two points. A flurry of service errors became the story of set three, which the Knights were happy to take advantage of. Curtis Stone continued the block party deep into the potential final frame before Brady Dastrup ended the match with his second kill of the evening.

Southern Virginia will be back to work in the morning for two matches to close out the weekend. They'll face Wilkes, another newcomer in the CVC, at 10:00 AM, followed by a match with Widener at noon.
