Buena Vista, Va.- Southern Virginia University Softball loses to Bridgewater in doubleheader games despite a solid pitching effort from Ariana Prymak in Game 1 and improved defense in Game 2, SVU fell 4-0 and 8-0, respectively.
Game 1
Ariana Prymak delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching all seven innings and striking out six. She kept the game within reach, allowing just four earned runs against a Bridgewater lineup that found timely hits. Matea Manuleleua led SVU at the plate with two hits, while Taelor Ware, Ariana Prymak, and Dykell Jones each stole a base, showing the Knights' aggressive approach. Defensively, SVU battled hard but was hurt by a few miscues. Bridgewater capitalized with home runs, while their pitcher Ellie Rhodes held SVU scoreless despite several well-hit balls.
Game 2
The Knights put up a strong defensive effort in Game 2, committing no errors and making several solid plays in the field. Ariana Prymak and Abby Southern each recorded hits, and the team continued to put the ball in play against Bridgewater's pitching. On the mound, Malia Stauffer worked through tough innings before Abby Southern came in for relief and shut Bridgewater down for the rest of the game. While the fourth inning proved costly, SVU never let up and continued to compete until the final out.
Though the results weren't in their favor, the Knights showed their ability to battle against a strong opponent. With their pitching depth and aggressive baserunning, SVU has plenty of positives to carry into the rest of the season.
The Knights look forward to hosting Shenendoah at 2:00 and 4:00 PM on March 19th.
