Greensboro, NC - In a matchup with conference foe Greensboro College, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team won consecutive games for the second time this season after a 19-5 triumph.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first five minutes, Tyson Mauri got the Knights on the board with his 15th of the season and his teammates followed suit. Four different Knights found the scoresheet in the opening quarter, helping Southern Virginia to a 5-1 lead.
Four more goals were added to the total before the end of the half. Tyson Mauri had already completed a first half hat-trick while Jace Lightfoot made 8 saves in between the pipes to keep Greensboro's attack at bay.
Southern Virginia's defense upped the ante even further in the second half, allowing just two goals in the second half. Isaac Finley caused a career-high four turnovers and picked up six ground balls to lead the effort. Ryker McMurdie tallied his third goal of the season in the third quarter to push the Knights lead to 13-3 and were on cruise control from there.
After giving up an early goal in the final frame, Lightfoot pitched a shutout the rest of the way en route to a big win for the visitors. The Knights dominated on both sides of the ball, causing nine turnovers and nearly doubling Greensboro's output in ground balls. Five Knights recorded multi-goal games to highlight a deep Southern Virginia attack.
Looking ahead, the team returns home to host Piedmont, last season's runner-up in the USA South. The matchup will take place at Knight Stadium on Saturday, March 29th, at 12:00 PM.
