Buena Vista, VA - The National Wrestling Coaches Association revealed the names of thirty programs that are recognized as a 2025 NCAA Division lll Team Scholar All-America. The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team was included thanks to a collective GPA of 3.537, the 24th best mark in the country.
After receiving notice of the achievement, Head Coach Brigg Hoopes expressed his excitement for the work his team has done off the mat. "I am extremely proud of these guys and the work they have put into their academics this season. We have placed a huge emphasis on putting full effort into all that we choose to do, and I think this shows that they have done that. I couldn't be more proud of this accomplishment and the men these wrestlers are becoming."
Additionally, freshman Matthew Papa achieved the individual status of Academic All-American from the NWCA. Papa's excellent rookie campaign which culminated in a top 8 regional finish, coupled with a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA made him eligible for the prestigious award.
