Buena Vista, Va.- Southern Virginia University strikes in later innings to defeat Meredith College 8-4, showcasing their offensive hitting ability and aggressive baserunning in the first game, and falling just barely short in the second game, losing 6-5.
Game 1
Meredith College led with an early run series, but the Knights responded promptly and never looked back. The third inning held a Chloe Nelson single to right field, who was able to cruise around the bases and score for her team amid defensive errors that put other Knights on base. Arianna Prymak reached home as well, after reaching first on a walk and assertively moving between bases, totaling two runs for the Knights in the third.
The score read 2-2 until the bottom of the fifth when Southern Virginia took the reins. The first seven up to the plate for the Knights got on base, an impressive showing of continuous offensive power that led the Knights to a 5-run inning. Dykell Jones started off strong, smashing a hit to center field, sending her teammate Nelson, who had reached second base from a pitching error, completely around the bases. Katie Claytor then stepped up to bat and knocked a double to left center. Taelor Ware then repeated this exact play, sending both Jones and Claytor home and earning herself 2 RBIs. Another double by Sophia Badell along with aggressive baserunning tendencies from her teammates added five runs to the board in the fifth for the Knights.
Taelor Ware rounded out the last run for the Knights in the bottom of the sixth inning, after hitting a single through the left side and advancing on a hit by Badell. A throwing error by the catcher ultimately resulted in her run.
Southern Virginia University finished the game on top, winning 8-4 against Meredith College.
