Knights Victorious In Men’s Volleyball Regular Season Finale

Ashland, VA - The Southern Virginia University men's volleyball team put a cap on the regular season, spoiling Randolph-Macon's senior night with a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon. The victory equals the Knights single-season record for wins at 29.

The first set remained even through the midway point as the Yellow Jackets forced the Knights into several attacking errors. However, three consecutive Southern Virginia kills had them off and running.

The Knights claimed the opening frame on the strength of an 14-5 run to end things. In the second, Jeremy Brown had the hot hand, collecting four kills and two aces to help the team run out to a 12-5 advantage.

Randolph-Macon managed to keep the score respectable for the most part, but Jayton Hall's kill at set point sunk the hosts into a 2-0 hole. Kyler Evans and Kristo Bianchin were also building stellar performances in the middle for the Knights, whose defense proved difficult for the Yellow Jackets to solve.

In the third and potential final frame, a strong start by their opponents forced the Knights to come from behind to claim victory. Christian Sheaffer and Jason Wang combined for a couple of blocks during a six point run to surge back in the lead which they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Brady Dastrup and Kimo Hughey came off the bench and each supplied a kill to help the Knights secure their 29th win of the season, tying a program record. Gehrig Tolman continued his historic season with 38 assists, keeping him on pace to break the single-season program record of 915.

Brown led the way with 11 kills while also showing out defensively by collecting 7 digs. Jason Wang's 4 blocks were a match high and the Knights dismantled the Yellow Jackets attack, holding them to a hitting percentage of .104. It's Southern Virginia's fifth consecutive win over Randolph-Macon.
