Southern Virginia University Captures Fourth Consecutive President's Cup

Buena Vista, Va. — Following the conclusion of the 2024–25 athletic season, the USA South Athletic Conference has announced the final standings for its prestigious Presidents Cup awards. Southern Virginia University continued its dominant run in league competition, capturing both the Overall and Women's Presidents Cups—marking the fourth consecutive year the Knights have claimed both honors.

The USA South Presidents Cup is awarded annually to the top-performing athletic programs in the league based on a points system that measures regular-season finishes and postseason success across all sponsored sports. Institutions earn points according to their finish in each sport, with additional bonus points awarded for conference tournament champions and runner-ups, as well as individual top finishes in cross country and golf.

Southern Virginia's success this year was highlighted by conference championships in women's cross country, volleyball, indoor and outdoor track & field, and basketball. These titles contributed significantly to the Knights' point total, with volleyball earning 11.5 points and basketball adding another 11. Both women's soccer and women's tennis posted strong campaigns as conference runner-ups, securing 8 and 7 points respectively.

The men's programs also played a crucial role in the SVU's cup wins, finishing third in the Men's Cup standings out of 13 member institutions. Contributions came from men's cross country, soccer, indoor and outdoor track & field, basketball, lacrosse, and baseball, with several programs making deep postseason runs and consistently competing at a high level.

First awarded in 1979, the Presidents Cup began as a single overall honor. In 2005, the league split the award into separate Men's and Women's Cups, and reinstated the Overall Cup the following year. Since joining the USA South, Southern Virginia has quickly become one of the league's premier all-around athletic programs.
