Buena Vista, VA – The Southern Virginia women's soccer team fell 1-3 to the Eagles of Bridgewater College on Tuesday evening.
The Knights came out aggressive, with Natalie Blaser and Xoie Warner applying early pressure before Courtney Montes capitalized on a pass from Delin Peterson to score in the 11th minute and give Southern Virginia a 1-0 lead.
Bridgewater responded with an equalizer after back-to-back saves from Beth Manwill, leveling the match at 1-1. The Eagles kept the pressure on and broke through again before halftime, converting off a corner kick scramble to take a 2-1 advantage.
Southern Virginia looked to regain momentum after the break, but Bridgewater extended the lead with a goal in the 61st minute, sealing the 3-1 result.
The Eagles held a 20-7 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Warner led the Knights with two shots, while Manwill tallied seven saves in goal.
Southern Virginia now turns its attention to its USA South Conference opener on the road at N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday, September 20, at 2:00 p.m.
