Knights Double Down For Victories In Women’s Volleyball Tri-Match

BUENA VISTA, Va. - In their only home tri-match of the season, the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team took down two conference rivals on Saturday, defeating Pfeiffer and William Peace in three and four sets respectively.

Game One

Pfeiffer served as the Knights first opponent of the day, which also made it the first USA South contest of the year.

Southern Virginia showed little rust by leading most of the opening frame before clinching the set with an ace from Summer Hahn. The second followed a similar trend with the Knights jumping out to an early lead while the Falcons tried to claw their way back.

Led by Brookelyn Madland, three consecutive points from Southern Virginia gave them a 2-0 set lead, putting Pfeiffer on the verge of a sweep.

The Knights were sure to put their opponents away in the third, collecting their largest margin of victory in the match with a 25-16 sweep-clinching third.

Gracie Fulton shined with 24 digs, proving her first team all-conference worth. Aubrey Packer and Emma Broadbent each tallied 7 kills to lead the team.

Game Two

Against William Peace, Southern Virginia took its fans in attendance through a rollercoaster of emotions.

Statistically one of the best defensive teams in the nation, the Knights looked the part in the opening set with an assertive 25-16 victory.

The Pacers fought back in the second and built a seven point lead. The Southern Virginia middles, Summer Hahn and Ryann Vail, led a dominant stretch which included two kills, two aces, and two blocks to bring them back to even. However, the Pacers showed resilience and took set two to tie the game.

A quick start to the third helped Southern Virginia claim the third set and a 2-1 lead. Late in the fourth, William Peace threatened to force a decisive fifth set as they held a 24-20 lead.

Unwilling to go down, it was a block party at the net as the Knights rattled off the next six points to shock the visitors, sending them home in four.

Aubrey Packer led the attack with 14 kills, but the defense stole the show once again. The team combined for 16 total blocks compared to the Pacers four. Summer Hahn was unstoppable, registering two solo blocks and nine assists to lead the effort.

Looking Ahead

After a perfect start to the conference schedule, the Knights will head south to face Salem College on Wednesday, September 24th at 6:00 PM.
