Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team opened its fall season in dominant fashion, earning a 6-1 victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon. The win marks the Knights' fourth straight over the Eagles.
The Knights jumped out to an early lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sisters Nadia and Natalia Molanphy took a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Lydia Delich and Lucy Dalgleish cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 2. Hailey Laird and Elizabeth Ursenbach rounded out the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3.
In singles, Southern Virginia carried the momentum, claiming five of six courts. Delich impressed at the top spot with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 win, while Nadia Molanphy and Natalia Molanphy secured back-to-back straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Brynleen Weir added a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance at No. 4, and Taylor McMinn sealed the team win with a 6-3, 6-0 result at No. 6.
Bridgewater earned its lone point at No. 5 singles, where Lucy Dalgleish battled through a three-set contest but ultimately fell in a 10-point super tiebreak.
Southern Virginia (1-0) continues its early slate with a road scrimmage against Averett University on Wednesday, September 24, at 3:30 p.m. in Danville, Va.
