Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Quin Meyer

Hickman's Third Goal Of The Season Not Enough To Upset Tigers

SEWANEE, Tenn. - In likely their most challenging opponent thus far, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team visited Sewanee University in Tennessee for a non-conference clash.

Despite another strike from Tate Hickman, the Knights relinquished the final three goals of the game before falling by a score of 4-1.

The Tigers quickly went on the attack after kickoff, sending several shots toward Southern Virginia keeper Troy Chamberlain's cage. On the second of two consecutive corner opportunities, Sewanee got on the board just eight minutes into play.

Unwilling to back down, the Knights showed off an explosive attack of their own just over ten minutes later.

After the Knights fended off a Sewanee set piece, sophomore Jacob Lee sent an excellent ball down the middle of the field to find Tate Hickman in stride. Hickman outraced several defenders and launched a shot into the right-side of the cage to notch his third goal of the season.

It's the second goal in as many games for Hickman who continues a torrid start to his collegiate career.

In the end, a vaunted Tigers offense proved too much for the shorthanded Knights. Sewanee broke the tie not long after and would finish off a 4-1 win.

Looking Ahead

On Wednesday, September 10th, the Knights return home for their next matchup against a regional fo Eastern Mennonite.  Tuesday Southern Virginia is undefeated in three games with the Royals since 2019, including a 3-2 victory at Knight Stadium two seasons ago. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
