Buena Vista, Va. – The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team continued its strong conference start with a commanding 89–69 win over Brevard College, powered by an efficient offensive performance and a dominant effort in the paint.
The opening minutes featured seven early lead changes, with the frontcourt duo of Hyrum McConkie and Austin Mitchell leading the charge. Brevard briefly grabbed its largest lead of the night, 19–14, following back-to-back threes, but the Knights quickly responded. Guards DJ Green and Mason Hunter helped spark a four-minute surge as Southern Virginia went on a 15–2 run, highlighted by threes from Green and Hunter and aggressive play from Tillman Johnson and Luc DeVore attacking the rim.
Despite a few turnovers, the Knights stayed poised and efficient. Abe Connolly finished a pair of strong layups to push the lead to double digits, and a McConkie basket closed out the half with Southern Virginia ahead 48–37.
