FARMVILLE, Va. - Eager to compete after the cancellation of the afternoon sections of the Paul Short Run last weekend, the Southern Virginia University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Farmville for Longwood's Lancer Pink Invitational.

Men's Results

Despite  the challenging conditions, Kovyk Chandler navigated his way through the hills extremely well. He finished second overall for the second time this season in a meet of Division l and ll programs.

Chandler crossed the line in 26:07, a season best. Joseph Hughes improved significantly on his performance from the South Regional Preview three weekends ago, running under 27 minutes to place sixth and challenge Longwood's second third runners, the eventual team champions.

Landon Ruder, Jackson Brown, and Ethan Hughes rounded out the scoring for the Knights with top 25 finishes, helping Southern Virginia to second in the team race.

Women's Results

The women's team looked every bit of the top five team they are in the South Region, and perhaps more.

Bayleigh Armstrong nearly brought home another win, finishing second on the grueling 5K course while Sasha Braddy placed fifth to help split up Division l Longwood's top runners.

Amee Newman was the third Knight inside the top 10 and the duo of Kyra Lee and Hazel Scharman completed scoring in the top 20. Southern Virginia finished second in the six team field, only behind Longwood.

Looking Ahead

Both teams will be back to work this weekend for Roanoke College's South Region Showdown at Green Hill Park in Salem, as well as the Connecticut College Invite on Saturday, October 17th.
