FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell 4-0 to Mary Washington in a non-conference road matchup against the Eagles.
Mary Washington entered the contest with an 8-1-3 record and controlled much of the match, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Knights came out with early energy, as Halle Willardson recorded a shot on goal within the first 30 seconds. However, the Eagles settled in and took control of the opening half, outshooting Southern Virginia 11-1 and scoring three goals before the break.
Southern Virginia looked to respond in the second half, with McKenna Currey and Estee Schneider each recording a shot. However, Mary Washington added another goal to secure the 4-0 victory.
Goalkeeper Chloë Miller recorded seven saves, tying her second-highest total of the season despite the Eagles' offensive pressure.
The Knights will return home to resume conference play against Meredith College on Saturday, October 17, at 7 p.m. at Knight Stadium. Southern Virginia has won seven consecutive matchups against the Avenging Angels and will look to get back in the win column in front of the home crowd.
