BUENA VISTA, Va. - In the first home game of a young season, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team impressed in front of their home crowd.
After finding themselves in an early three-goal deficit, the Knights secured their first win of the season, an 18-9 decision over Marymount.
The Saints jumped out to the early lead after several possessions of sustained pressure which included an opportunity on the man-advantage. Garrett Zollinger finally broke the ice for Southern Virginia just past the five-minute mark as the Knights settled in.
In the second quarter, freshman attacker Myles Nielson took over the spotlight, potting four of his six goals to vault his team into the lead.
After taking a 10-6 lead into halftime, the Knights' defense began to serve notice. Britton Tidwell caused a game high of five turnovers to lead a stalwart group.

As the lead nearly grew to double-digits in the fourth, Stetson Hogge would bag his third goal as part of an eight point performance to close out the scoring.
Jace Lightfoot earned the win in between the pipes for Southern Virginia, making six saves while Daniel Goold also came in for just over 10 minutes and made five of his own.
