BUENA VISTA, Va. - Back in the 'Big Dance' for the fourth time in five years, the Southern Virginia University women's basketball team anxiously awaited the unveiling of the 2026 Division lll women's basketball bracket.
The Knights will travel to Ohio for their first round matchup of this year's tournament. They'll square off with Denison University, hosts of the Granville Regional.
Southern Virginia is just two days removed from winning the USA South Championship. They're led by five four-year seniors, one of which is the newly announced USA South Player of the Year, Abigail Snyder, who averages nearly 20 points per game and over seven boards.
In collecting 21 wins, the Knights have used size to their advantage. A frontcourt consisting of Anna Kimball, Aysia Foster, and Ruth Kempler are a big reason why they are ranked 18th across all of Division lll in rebound margin, averaging over ten rebounds more than their opponents.

Along with the range and playmaking ability of Maria Savvun, the team is poised to make noise on college basketball's biggest stage.
Their opponents, Denison, are fresh off a disappointing exit in the semifinal of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC). However, the "Big Red", who rank top ten in the country, have knocked off several ranked opponents during an impressive regular season.
Southern Virginia will look to capture their second-ever NCAA Tournament win. If they manage a victory in their first round matchup, the Knights would play the winner of Trine-Shenandoah.
