DEMOREST, Ga. - It was a big day for the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team.
A key road victory over Piedmont, 16-9, gives the Knights a win in their opening contest against league opponents this season. It also marks the 300th win in the career of Head Coach Jason, a remarkable achievement.
Having lost their three previous matchups with the Lions, Southern Virginia looked to flip the script.
Garrett Zollinger got things rolling in the right direction, as he tallied goals on his first three shots on goal to complete an early hat trick. Clay Haacke found twine shortly after to put the Knights up 4-0 with just over six minutes gone.
Piedmont made a run in the second quarter to tie the game at five, but Southern Virginia grabbed momentum the rest of the way, outscoring the Lions 8-3 in the second half to secure an important win.
Jace Lighfoot played well in between the pipes, stopping 15 shots, 11 of which occurred in the final two quarters. Stetson Hogge factored into much of the scoring, posting 4 goals and two assists to lead the attack.
Coach Lamb, an MCLA Hall of Famer, has led the Southern Virginia program for over ten years. He's won at virtually every level of men's lacrosse, including stints as Head Coach at BYU and representing the United States on the International stage.
Looking Ahead
They'll look to keep the ball rolling against USA South opponents in showdown with the two-time defending league champs, Pfeiffer. Gametime at Knight Stadium is set for 5:00 PM on Friday, March 13th.
