MISENHEIMER, N.C. - In a return to the USA South final for the first time since 2023, the Southern Virginia University men's lacrosse team matched up with the three-time defending champions, Pfeiffer.
Despite riding the momentum of a four game win streak heading into the championship, the Knights title hopes were thwarted by the Falcons, who captured another USA South trophy after a 23-7 decision.
Much like their meeting during the regular season, Pfeiffer got out to a quick start behind the support of their home fans. Their defense locked down Southern Virginia's high-octane attack, conceding just two goals in the entire first half.
Meanwhile, Jace Lightfoot did all he could in goal for the Knights as he was peppered with 44 shots on goal. Lightfoot made 16 saves, nearly a season high.
Clay Haacke and Myles Nielson each had two goals in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
While the Knights season comes to an end just short of championship glory, the team made great strides in 2026.
They lost just one conference game during the regular season and made their third appearance in the USA South title game. Four out of the five leading scorers are freshman and sophomores, as well as the team leaders in caused turnovers, signaling a bright future for the squad.
