BUENA VISTA, Va. - On opening day in Knight Stadium, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team found themselves on the wrong side of a late comeback, ultimately falling to a regional foe, Randolph College, 3-2.
In the first half, Isaac Northcutt stopped all three shots he faced in goal for the Knights. Randolph ruled possession throughout, but the teams were scoreless heading into the halftime break.
In the 57th minute, the Wildcats drew first blood after a powerful shot barely squeezed its way through Zack Snow, who subbed in for Northcutt at the half.
Southern Virginia returned serve just three minutes later when London Timothy, a transfer out of New Hampshire, rose above everyone else on a corner from Jackson Gorringe to pot the Knights first goal of the season.
Just a few minutes after the equalizer, Dexter Gunderson of the Knights was taken down inside the box for a penalty. Once again, Timothy stepped up to guide a shot into the right side of the cage for a 2-1 advantage.
Unfortunately for the Knights, a flurry of Randolph scoring chances in the final minutes of regulation conceded the lead back to the Wildcats.
For the third consecutive year between the two squads, the result was a single goal differential, with the Knights last taking down the Wildcats 1-0 in 2024.

Southern Virginia will remain in search of their first win of the season when Sewanee pays a visit to Knight Stadium on Friday, September 4th at 5:00 PM.
