River Falls, Wis. – The Southern Virginia University football team opened the 2026 season on the road against reigning NCAA Division III National Champion and No. 7-ranked UW-River Falls, falling 73-7.
The Knights faced an early deficit as the Falcons scored on seven consecutive drives to open the game and took control from the start.
Defensively, Dallin Heal came away with an interception, while Brady Freeman recorded a sack. Scott Pese led the Knights with seven tackles and added two pass breakups.
Southern Virginia found the end zone in the third quarter when Marcus Price connected with Jax Vanchiere on a 62-yard touchdown pass to put the Knights on the board.
The Knights return home for their first home game of the season when they host Averett University on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. Southern Virginia defeated Averett 46-14 last season.
