Michael Frye enters the sixth season on the Southern Virginia football staff as a Running backs coach and liaison between the football program and academics.
In 2019, Akiva Wedge was named First Team All-Conference running back and named  National Player of the week with 19 carries for 247 yards and 3 TD. Akiva went on to have another 1,000+ season. Frye guided runningback Akiva wedge into the record books. In 2018, running back Akiva Wedge became the first Knight in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards since the Knights joined the NCAA.
 
Frye, who graduated in April 2017 with a degree in Family and Human Development, led the Knights in rushing yards as a senior. Frye was voted as team captain during his senior year.
During his playing career, he had an opportunity to play in a pro-style offense, a spread offense, and a triple-option offense.  

Frye transferred from Saint Paul’s college to Southern Virginia in 2013 and helped the Knights build an 8-2 record, the best record in school history. The Knights finished 2013 ranked No. 1, according to the final United States Collegiate Athletic Association coaches poll.

In 2012, Frye worked as a speed and conditioning coach at A.S.T. Speed training.

He and his wife Lyndsee have two children, Arianna, 6, and Amara, newborn. Frye also serves as Associate Dean and Associate Director of Student Success.
