Chad Mahaffey has been the head athletic trainer at Southern Virginia University since 2005, overseeing athletic training for the university's 26 athletic teams. He is also an adjunct instructor of physical education courses.
Mahaffey came to Southern Virginia from Brigham Young University where he served as a graduate assistant trainer for the Cougars’ 2003 track and field season. He then, in 2004, was the first assistant athletic trainer for the BYU football team.
Prior to his time at SVU, Mahaffey worked for several organizations, including two NFL Franchises, the San Francisco 49ers, and the New York Jets. He also worked on the sports medicine staff for the Iron Man Triathlon and the Junior Olympics Volleyball Tournament.
Mahaffey has a B.S. in Athletic Training and Master's Degree in Sports Medicine from BYU. He is a certified instructor of First Aid, CPR and AED through the American Red Cross, is a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner, is Graston Technique Certified and is a certified member of the National Athletic Training Association as well as a licensed Athletic Trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
He and his wife, Michelle, reside in Buena Vista with their four children.
