Paul Lasike

Paul Lasike was named Head Coach of the Southern Virginia University rugby team in June of 2025.

Lasike bringsĀ an impressive résumé as a player and coach. He wasĀ a professional rugby player with the Utah Warriors, where he was the first player ever signed by the franchise and has served as a team captain. He also played internationally for the USA Men's National Team, competing in the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Lasike additionally, spent four years overseas playing professionally for the Harlequins Rugby Club in the United Kingdom.Ā 

Before a professional career in rugby, Lasike played fullback in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and was a dual-sport athlete at Brigham Young University, where he starred in both rugby and football. Lasike also holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Education Teaching/Coaching from BYU. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Birmingham, Alabama.Ā 

On the coaching side, Lasike has most recently served as the backs coach on BYU's women's rugby team and as head coach of the Gray Wolves, a Utah-based team that feeds into the Warriors' pro program. His leadership has helped numerous local athletes sign professional contracts.

Lasike's arrival marks an exciting new chapter for Southern VirginiaĀ Rugby. With his leadership, the program is poised to grow in culture and unity. Southern Virginia University is energized by the vision he brings, and there is a shared optimism as they look ahead to the future of the program.
