Evan Smith enters his first season as an assistant men's soccer coach with Southern Virginia University. A native of Draper, Utah, Evan brings an accomplished playing background and a passion for player development to the Knights' coaching staff.
A graduate of Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, he starred as an attacking midfielder for BYU, helping lead the program to four consecutive national championships. Prior to his collegiate career, Evan earned 3A All-State honors in high school and has continued competing at a high level through semi-professional soccer in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL).
Before joining Southern Virginia, Evan served as an assistant coach at BYU, where he assisted with training sessions, tactical preparation, and player development. He has also spent years coaching youth camps and mentoring players of all ages, gaining valuable experience in technical instruction and athlete development.
Evan's coaching philosophy emphasizes developing complete players by combining technical excellence, creative brilliance, and tactical intelligence. His primary areas of expertise include individual player development and tactical analysis, with a focus on helping student-athletes maximize their potential both on and off the field.
When he's not on the training ground, Evan enjoys watching anime. His all-time favorite series is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and he also counts Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Horimiya, DanMachi, and Lord of Mysteries among his favorites.
