Former program alum Derek Blasko begins his inaugural season in leading the Knights' throwers.
Coach Blasko still holds program records for Southern Virginia University Track and Field in multiple events, including the Javelin Throw, and Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put. Additionally, his marks in the Discus, Hammer Throw, and Weight Throw, still rest within the Knights' top 10 all-time list. His versatility as a collegiate thrower will provide a strong resource for current throwers in the program to draw upon.
Most recently, Blasko coached throwers for two years at University Christian High School in Hickory, North Carolina - in addition to serving as a basketball coach for four years. During the most recent spring season, several throwers under Blasko's guidance qualified for the State Championship meet. Two women qualified in the Shot Put and Discus while one qualified on the men's side in the Discus, all of whom scored in their respective events.
