Rachel Mawson

Rachel Mawson is in her sixth year as the assistant softball coach at Southern Virginia University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Arizona State University and a Master of Education in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona, with an additional 20 post-graduate credits from Grand Canyon University.

Mawson has a broad teaching background, having taught 8th to 12th grade for six years, and is now in her sixth year as a full-time instructor of mathematics at Southern Virginia University.

With over 12 years of coaching experience, Mawson has been an assistant softball coach at various levels, ranging from little league to varsity in her hometown of Miami, Arizona. She has also served as a head varsity coach for both softball and volleyball for six years and has coached junior high basketball for three years. Her diverse coaching experience also includes a year as an assistant tennis coach and stints as an umpire and referee for softball, volleyball, and basketball.

Mawson is passionate about fostering athletic growth and development, while also bringing a creative touch to her roles. Outside of work, she enjoys fixing things, creating useful inventions, and is well-known for treating her student-athletes to homemade tacos. Mawson has a large and close-knit family, including her parents, seven siblings, 32 nieces and nephews, and one great-nephew. She fondly shares that her hometown of Miami, Arizona, has the best Mexican food.
