Emma Risk joined the Southern Virginia training staff in July 2025 and will serve as one the university's full-time athletic trainers. Most recently, she worked with Banner Sports Medicine and spent three years as the Head Athletic Trainer of Benjamin Franklin High School in the greater Phoenix area.
Emma attended Brigham Young University and earned a BS in Sports Medicine in 2020. There, she worked as a Student Athletic Trainer and performed duties for several athletic programs, including taping before practices, and working directly with Physical Therapists to create rehabilitation plans for ACL, lisfranc, labrum, and meniscus injuries.
She also obtained her MA in Business Leadership from Ottawa University in 2021. As a Graduate Assistant Trainer, she worked directly with the men's soccer team and created at-home exercise programs for quarantined athletes. During her undergraduate studies, Emma earned several academic honors. Notably, the Professional Development and Kerie Jean Waters Athletic Training awards.
