Ike Beck enters his second year after a highly successful inaugural campaign coaching throws at Southern Virginia University.

During the 2023 Indoor season Beck guided four men’s throwers to top-six championship places in the Weight Throw (1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th) and three in the Shot Put (1st, 4th, 5th) with one women (4th) in the Weight Throw. Those valuable points propelled both the men’s and women’s teams to another team title sweep.

The 2023 outdoor season was even more impressive. On the women’s side, he guided one thrower in the Shot Put to a 6th place finish with a PR at the conference championship and assisted Javelin coach John Tucker in a near sweep with 1st – 2nd – 3rd – 5th place chucks.

Not to be outdone, the men shined at the conference championship scoring 99 points in the 4 throws alone. Beck, with Coach Tucker, helped the men’s Javelin crew sweep the top 4 places. In the Shot Put they went 1st – 3rd – 5th. In the Discus they swept the Top 3 spots and in the Hammer Throw they put 5 in the top 6 going 1st – 2nd – 3rd – 4th and 6th.

As a result of these outstanding performances, thrower Cole Oldham was named as the USA South Men’s Field athlete of the Conference Championship Meet going 1st in Shot Put and 2nd in both the Discus and Hammer Throw.

First year thrower Derek Lionberger was named the USA South Men’s Rookie Field athlete of the Conference Championship Meet winning the Discus in a Conference Championship Meet Record to go with his 1st place throw in the Discus and 5th place heave in the Shot Put.
Before arriving at Southern Virginia, Ike coached at the prep level in Utah guiding several throwers to high conference and state honors, including a state champion - worked in sales in addition to coaching track & field - and refereed high school football and basketball.
As a thrower in high school, Ike helped his team win the state track & field championship and afterwards attended Snow College where he played Rugby and then served a mission to Cape Town, South Africa for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His wife, Mikel, is the head Dance Coach for Southern Virginia University and they enjoy spending time with their two boys, Henry and Martin.
